Vostok 1 and Yuri Gagarin being launched in 1961. Sadly, I remember the event well: it was what made me decide to become an Astronaut! And no: I didn't! But I did become a Pilot in the Royal Navy!
Mercury Redstone 3 taking Alan Shepard into space (albeit only briefly!) a few weeks later. Annoyed by a host of delays, this bravest of men uttered the immortal line: "Fix your little problem and light this candle!" Yep: he had the 'Right Stuff'!
	One of my favourite images: the Shuttle lifting off from Cape Canaveral. Totally iconic, it's hard to believe the entire fleet will stop flying in a couple of years....
